Charity Projects
Regular visitors to Crates of Wool will know we have been working on a number of charity projects recently.
Blankets for Alzheimer's Patients
On Yarn Shop Day, we spent all day making blanket squares in both knitting and crochet with people working in relays. We succeeded in completing two blankets for an Alzheimer's Ward in Maidstone, Kent.
We have continued to work on blankets - we have selected a stitch pattern and our volunteers buy a ball of yarn and make squares to that pattern. This way we can all join in with the project, the resulting blankets are beautifully co-ordinated and no one person has to carry the cost of a whole blanket.
This month's blanket is worked in Superwash Merino DK using a Brickwork pattern.
You'd be very welcome to join us - just pop into the shop for your yarn and pattern.
Bears for Buddy Bags
Once a month we dedicate Wednesdays to making bears for the Buddy Bag Foundation. This amazing charity provides backpacks full of essentials for children who are entering emergency care and every bag contains a teddy bear. Since there are thousands of children in this sad situation every year they need thousands of bears.
We have just sent off our first batch of bears and a handsome bunch they are:
Our next Bear-making session is on Wednesday 10th July from 10am to 4pm - cost for the session is £3. Feel free to join us! These bears are a great use of your odds and ends of yarn.
